Summary: One more step up.
Comment: I recently purchased the PC5750 to replace my PC5740. While being sold on the specs by the local salesman, i was expecting it to be much faster than the previous model. In my home in Key West, Florida i noticed a slight boost in performance, but not nearly as much as the commissioned salesman had sold me on. But to me the defining quality feature that the PC5750 has vrs the PC5740 is the external antenna jack "not the flip up antenna" that i am using in order to amplify the signal and pull much more bandwidth than the previous model. So in short the card it's self is only slightly better than the previous models but when boosted by a separate external antenna, it is very impressive.

Summary: Disappointing
Comment: I bought this card for the same reason others did - to upgrade from the PC5740, which has been fantastically reliable but could be faster. Unfortunately, the unit kept losing the signal - in areas that that 5740 handled with ease (for a while I was commuting from RI to NJ on the train, so it was a great apples-to-apples test). Try as I might and with Verizon support (they mostly suggested I do the same things I'd already tried), I simply could not get it to hold the signal, and getting the signal back was a buggy, bothersome process. So I gave up and went back to my 5740, which works even when traveling by train through the Great Swamp in RI and below ground in Penn Station. I will switch to an faster card when I am convinced I can get the reliability of the 5740 at a faster speed.

Summary: With the PC5750, Verizon service beats anything ATT has to offer
Comment: I tried using an ATT USB 881 modem AND an ATT Option GT Max 3.6 card for my train trips from Morristown NJ to Grand Central and in the building I work in near Grand Central. Of the two, the GT Max was slightly faster. But the ATT network was like an intermittent dial-up connection; real slow, and lots of drops.

Before closing the ATT account, I opened a Verizon account with a PC5750 EVDO Rev A PC Card. It's almost like a cable connection; 10x as fast as the ATT network, and a good connection ALL THE WAY from Morristown to Grand Central, although signal strength varies. I'm writing this in the tunnel as we approach Grand Central, and I still have 4 bars. The ATT network was long dead by this point in the trip. I'm going to return all the ATT equipment and close that account before my 30 day trial runs out! I have no experience with any other Verizon cards, but I have no complaints with the 5750!

Summary: Excellent Rev A PCMCIA/PC Card Type EVDO Card
Comment: Got this card and used it in an Apple Mac PowerBook G4 1.67MHZ running 10.4.9. At first, the Verizon software did not recognize the card, which seemed odd since the previous Rev 0 (Non Rev A) card we were using (Kyocera KPC650) was recognized without any problem. After a reboot and 'activating' the card with the latest Verizon Access Manager Software (3.3.1) it worked great. We use it in California in Palo Alto and the San Francisco Bay area and the service is much faster now that we are using a Rev A EVDO card. We can stay connected for hours at a time without any problem. Have also used it while traveling in the Northern NJ, Bergen County area, also works really well. As with any other wireless product, your mileage may vary, especially if Verizon's high speed Rev A coverage map does not show availability of this newer high speed service, but even the 'regular' EVDO connection rates are pretty quick for downloads (uploads on Rev A are up to 3 - 5 times faster). A speedtest before and after in Palo Alto showed 550kbps Down 80kbps up using the Kyocera 650 standard EVDO, and 800kbps Down and 350k Up when using the Rev A EVDO PC5750. Finally, I'm no Verizon fan-boy, I've had my share of problems with them over time, but this card works well when in a good coverage area for us.

Summary: Poor Performance
Comment: I live in the Midwest. I "upgraded" from the 1xRT Serria card to this card to get the higher speed data rates. I travel a lot in my job and have yet to see anything greater than the 1xRT speeds I had with the last card. I have contacted Verizon in the past and they are not helpful.. All they are interested in is getting you to extend your contract. My advice is to go with the Sprint service, my coworkers seem to have good luck with them.

Editorial Reviews:

This latest addition to the Verizon Wireless PC Card line-up operates on the Verizon BroadbandAccess and NationalAccess high-speed, EV-DO wireless data access broadband network with typical download speeds of 450-800 kbps and uploads speeds of 300-400 kbps. With the PC5750 card and VZAccess Manager, you can connect to corporate applications, email, instant messaging, and the Internet anywhere, anytime. The card also comes with a high performance hinged antenna and support for an external antenna connector (sold separately) to boost signal strength and improve network connectivity in fringe areas. Other features include Windows Vista compatibility (as well as 2000 and XP), Mac OS X compatibility (10.3.9 or higher), a 10.3.932-bit CardBus interface (3.3V) for lower power consumption, and more.

Stay Connected
The PC5750 is compatible with Verizon's BroadbandAccess and NationalAccess high-speed wireless data access plans. That means you can get the broadband-like speed you require to work efficiently outside the office.

A Verizon BroadbandAccess plan will give you the freedom to stay productive and connected whether you're on the road or in a meeting across town with broadband-like connection speeds. You will also receive NationalAccess service when outside the BroadbandAccess rate and coverage area. NationalAccess is available in thousands of cities and towns.

The NationalAccess plan is Verizon Wireless' national wireless Internet service, which enables users to access the Internet, email, attachments, and business applications with a laptop at average speeds of 60-80 kbps and bursts up to 144 kbps (you may experience slower data speeds).

Before checkout be sure to choose one of the previously mentioned Verizon wireless data plans to enjoy Unlimited access for Internet browsing, email, and Intranet access. Chose a plan that's right for you. Without a specified Verizon data plan, data service will be charged at 0.25 cents a minute.

Card Design and Features
The PC5750 comes with VZAccess Manager software for easy connection management right out of the box. Easy to install and use, the card features a high performance, hinged antenna for increased speed and coverage allowing you to easily connect from the comforts of your favorite coffee shop, in a board meeting, or on your sofa at home. The card's intuitive user interface is easy to manage while the already mentioned 32-bit CardBus interface (3.3V) was designed with lower power consumption in mind. There's even an optional external Antenna Connector (sold separately) for times when you need to boost connectivity.

VZAccess Manager is a new customizable tool that lets you manage remote access needs across the country. VZAccess Manager, developed by Verizon Wireless in conjunction with one of its parent companies, Vodafone, is available for BroadbandAccess and NationalAccess wireless PC cards, and Mobile Office Kits. It allows mobile professionals, business, and enterprise customers to easily access Verizon Wireless' BroadbandAccess and NationalAccess services, and their own Wi-Fi and dial-up networks so that they can stay connected wherever they go.

VZAccess Manager is easy to use and simplifies wireless remote access allowing users to stay connected to business-critical email, company databases, files, and the Internet while mobile. VZAccess Manager is ideal for information technology managers who seek to deploy a remote access solution that is easy for their employees to use with minimum support requirements.
