Summary: Literally the best phone EVER! If you broke your previous one, that is . . .
Comment: I had the Razor from Motorola. After only a few months, the buttons started to slow down their responsiveness and then one day, I accidentally broke it. As it turns out, breaking my last phone was the best thing to happen to me (especially because razors suck) because the Casio G'z One is just beyond my expectations.

To be honest, I've already been spoiled with more advanced cell phones in Japan, but that's why I know for a fact that this phone is one of the very few (including the iPhone) in the North American market that actually can compete in superiority to Japanese phones (trust me, Japanese phones are hot . . . I mean they had one-on-one video confference capabilities on their phones for more than five years now. Oh yeah, and received calls are always free).

Anyway, this phone is absolutely the best. I don't need to mention that not only is it shock resistant, but also water resistant. That doesn't mean it's water-proof, but it adds a whole new feeling of security when handling this phone in the rain.

Another thing I really need to emphasize is the brightness of the LED on the front of the camera. It is extremely bright, so much so that it's just as useful as a flashlight and it has saved me so many times at this point. You can close the camera but still use the LED in the front (which is right beside the camera lense) so it really comes in handy whereever whenever you need light.

And last but not least, the color LCD screen. The picture quality is superb, which is something that I haven't seen other makers beat yet (except for the iPhone, of course). Well, that's 'cause Casio's a Japanese company. Go figure.

The only thing that sucks is that at the time it cost me 299 dollars to buy this thing (just before the iPhone came out). But, I have to say it was worth it; my G'z One is working just as well as it did when I first bought it, and I ain't lying.

Just beware of the bulkiness. I have to use an external cell-phone holder to carry this around.

Summary: Functional Phone
Comment: A cellphone for an active blue-collar guy like me must be, first and foremost, functional. It can't be fragile or too small. I was initially excited to hear about the features of the G'zOne and its practicality. However, I'm disappointed in the phone's multi-functional navigational keys and alphanumeric keypad. The buttons should be more pronounced or raised to accomodate the thicker fingertips of a man's hand. It has been a nuisance hitting the wrong button each time. In addition, I prefer a phone that has a 24-hour digital clock as opposed to a AM/PM one.

Summary: Good, solid phone
Comment: Well, I just got this phone today and have gone through just about everything, made some calls, sent some texts and it seems like a very sturdy phone (which it's supposed to be). I should preface by saying I have verizon service, so where I am the signal strength is great. The call quality is good, I like the displays--Menus are easy to navigate and are the same as on my past phone, the Razor. It is a larger phone, but honestly not too much larger than most clamshell designs. What makes it appear bigger are the antenna sticking out and the protective guard. I don't care so much about size, I just wanted a nice, functional, durable phone and that's what I got. No bluetooth, but I don't need that anyways. Not many ringtones, wallpapers, but really don't care. Camera seems fine, with flash but I don't take many pictures with my phone. Overall, just a meat and potatoes type phone for somebody who wants great functionality and durability.

Summary: Casio G'zOne
Comment: I like:
It's waterproof and unattractive to the masses. Who cares? I can ride my bike in the rain with no worries about a cell phone. If it falls, no worries. I like it, unlike most electronic devices, I don't have to baby it. It's big, easy to do that 'shoulder-to-ear' thing, and fits in my hand like a proper telephone. Alot of people don't like big, but think about how big your razr is when you put a case with a clip on it and think about it again, it really isn't that big.

I dislike:
Speaker sounds a bit muffled, but through months of use it hasn't really bothered me. The menu system is a bit muddled, and most things are geared for people using the internet stuff, but I just got it because it's a phone.

Conclusion:
It's good. If you can handle slight imperfections, it is worth the price. Mind you, the price I paid was 100 dollars, and even that felt expensive to me. I feel it was a sound investment, and hope to use it for many years to come.

Summary: Solid as a rock
Comment: If you want a durable phone to take punishment in any weather or conditions, this is it. Weighing in at 5.3 ounces, this isn't light or slim. It is the G-shock of phones.

A major drawback is no blue tooth capability. The buttons are responsive to pushing and the layout is similar to the LG line of phones. It has the capability to use a wired headset and the speakerphone option is available. Sounds are clear and a few decent ringtones are available. The speakerphone is loud and clear.

Another big draw is the flash and 2 MP phone. The display is clear and bright. Many of the standard Verizon features can be used (i.e. texting, internet, video, get it now, etc).

Aside from lacking the Bluetooth capability, it doesn't get any better than this.

Editorial Reviews:

If this isn't the phone Navy SEALs use, it should be. Not only is the G'zOne waterproof, it can remain underwater for a full-30 minutes, and still maintain all of its functionality. That means if you haven't drowned after 30 minutes underwater, you can use the phone's built-in GPS feature and flashlight to find out just how lost you really are.

Super rugged, super powerful. This phone is made for a rough and tumble life that's also fully connected. See the phone in 3-D (requires Flash).
Ruggedized to military standards, this super-tough clamshell is not only waterproof, it's shock resistant, and dust resistant, too. Non-tough guy features include a 2-megapixel camera, EV-DO high-speed data capabilities, a QVGA display, a speakerphone, a built-in mobile Web 2.0 browser, and more.

Design
The G'zOne features a ruggedized clamshell design with a large 240 x 320 color display with support for a whopping 65,000 colors--perfect for watching V Cast content. The outside of the clamshell features a supplementary monochrome LCD screen that can display incoming call information, battery life, signal strength, current date and time, stopwatch functions, and more. The protected camera lens and flash reside on the front cover, just above the external display, while up/down volume controls and a camera control button are on the right side of the phone. Most of the phone's features and on-screen menus are controlled by a five-way center button on the handset's backlit control pad. The G'zOne also features a flashlight, which is housed on the back of the phone, meanwhile, a unique carrying clip is built into the top of the clamshell.

Calling Features
The G'zOne's 31 MB of built in memory is more than enough to support up to 500 entries in the phone's address book. Meanwhile, a voice dialing feature makes calling friends and associates as easy as saying their names, while the built-in speakerphone allows you to talk handsfree. The phone also comes with built-in polyphonic ringtones and a vibrating alert. More ringtones can be downloaded via Verizon's Get It Now service. Ringtones can be assigned to specific callers so you don't have to look at the phone to know who's calling, or you can match pictures with callers to identify them. Lastly, the G'zOne's GPS location technology pinpoints your exact location when you dial 911.

A design that screams for action.
Messaging, Internet and Tools
With support for the EV-DO high-speed data standard, the G'zOne is fully compatible with Verizon's V Cast service. With V Cast, you can download and stream high-quality video. Need news and weather? Get the latest Accuweather forecast delivered right to your handset, or stream CNN news headlines. ESPN sports updates, entertainment news from E!, and even Sesame Street content for the kids, are all available.

With support for sending and receiving text, picture and video messages, the G'zOne has all the bases covered when it comes to messaging, too. Predictive text entry technology, which makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit--a plus for mobile email and text messaging users.

Getting on the Internet anywhere is easy with the G'zOne. Use the G'zOne's built in Web browser and Verizon's Mobile Web package to read and send e-mails, exchange instant messages and view your favorite web content. Verizon's Get It Now wireless download service is also fully compatible with the G'zOne. This pay-per-download service features application downloads, games and productivity tools. You can also personalize your handset with ringtone downloads using the Get It Now service.

The G'zOne ships with a number of handy tools including a calendar, an alarm clock, a calculator, a flashlight and a GPS feature that enables VZ Navigator functionality. VZ Navigator provides heads-up, voice-prompted turn-by-turn directions (with auto-rerouting if you miss a turn); local search of nearly fourteen million points of interest (POIs) in the U.S.A.; and detailed color maps that can be quickly panned and zoomed. With VZ Navigator you will know where you are, know what's around you, and know how to get there.

Imaging and Entertainment
While the G'zOne is a great platform for watching V Cast video content, it can also capture video that can be shared with your friends and associates via video messaging. Of course, you can also use the camera to capture still pictures, too. The camera features 2-megapixel resolution, and an LED flash.
